Movie Night Outfit: What I Am Wearing Tonight

Happy Friday, everyone! I never really told you what I am usually doing when I am not at the office, shooting outfits for my blog or getting inspired on Pinterest. Well, if you head to our local movie theatre on Friday or Saturday night, you will probably see me there, holding Starbucks cup, filled with mint or green tea. If it’s not our movie night, I am probably browsing a bookstore somewhere in downtown Montreal, even though I already got quite a collection of healthy cookbooks, creative self-help and classic books. Bookstores were my candy shop ever since I was little, actually. Unlike most of my friends who were playing outside all day, I simply couldn’t put my book down until I read the last page.

Things are a bit different when you’re an adult though: we have less free time and when we have it, we usually spend it with our friends or family. And believe it or not, but I am nothing special when it comes to picking things to do together: a good old movie night is my favourite. What can be more fun than escaping our daily lives, immersing into somebody else’s world for a couple of hours and watching our favourite actors’ play on a big screen, together? For me, there is just one more thing, and it’s choosing an outfit for my next movie night.

Since I usually try to dress according to the weather, I always wear a long-sleeved sweater or even a jacket on top of a simple tee to movies. You are probably wondering why, but if you stepped into one of our theatres on a hot and sunny day, you would totally understand me. The air conditioning there is usually set on “arctic cold”, and chances are that none of your friends will have a spare jacket to save you from freezing. For that same reason, I recommend that you wear your favourite pair of jeans instead of a skirt or a dress. If it’s your date night and you want to look a bit more chic, simply add a pair of heels or sandals, a statement accessory and you’re all set!

What do you usually wear on a movie night?

Update: the winner of my very first giveaway is Carrie C. from Wisconsin! Congratulations, Carrie! Your sunglasses will be on its way shortly.

  • Sneakers by Michael Kors
  • Shoulder Bag by 3.1. Phillip Lim (sold out, similar here)

    • Thanks so much, Violette! I am happy to hear you would wear something similar:) Stripes and denim is definitely one of my favourite combinations this summer. Have a great weekend!

    • So true! I would love to keep this tradition when I have kids, but I am sure this won’t be easy, lol. Thanks so much for stopping by and have a great weekend!

    • Thanks so much, Taylor! Bandana scarf is definitely one of my favourite trends at the moment. I just love how it makes everyday outfits more interesting and sophisticated. Hope you are having a great weekend:)

    • Kiko, that’s so cool! To be honest, most of people I know are coffee lovers, so I am always excited to meet someone who is a tea person like myself:) And I am happy that you liked this look, of course. Have a great weekend!

    • Me too!:) I am probably wearing this top a bit too often, lol. Anyway, thanks so much for stopping by and have a great day tomorrow!

  1. So much Paree in one post, absolutely love this look. Super stylish and pretty simple details!

    -xx, Sia

  2. LOVE the striped top on you Yulia! The scarf did make the look so much more polished 🙂
Btw, I tried adding you on Snapchat but realised I don’t know your user ID *LOL*

  3. Oh, dear Yulia, obviously we read both in our childhood a lot! I remember days when I read not only one book but often 3 or 4 🙂 And I like your habit to have a movie night on the weekend nights – it is very clever from you to take a jacket or long sleeve top with you as your cinemas are that arctic cold. Love your look, absolutely my taste in its classiness <3
    xx Rena

  4. Hi gorgeous!
You look so great! This outfit is one of my favourite, it’s casual and chic and so perfect for a movie night out! The bandana looks great on you! It makes the outfit more interesting ;-).
On a movie night I usually wear a pair oft skinny jeans, a blouse and loafer or sneaker.
Hope you’re having an amazing start to your new week ❤
    Much love, Pisa

  5. If I’m going out to watch a movie, I’ll usually dress in something that’s similar to how I normally dress, just a bit more casual. If I’m staying in and watching a movie, I’ll go all out casual and dress in my favorite baggy shirt and sweats. Love this look!! So chic 😁

  6. Gosh, I haven’t been to the movies since a long time! The last movie we watched was Star Wars. I have been bugging my husband about a date night again, hopefully end of this month which is our wedding anniversary.

  7. You look so incredibly chic, girlie, such a lovely outfit for the movies, casual, yet stylish! I know, it’s like that at all the movie theaters I go to, too, so I usually bring something along to keep warm and cozy as well! Thanks so much for sharing, beauty, and I hope you’re having a wonderful week so far!

  8. Lovely outfit for a casual night out! The little scarf really adds a nice finishing touch.
I don’t go to the movies very often (I can’t stand the noise of people eating popcorn, I just can’t…) but on the rare occasions when I do, I typically wear very casual clothes: jeans, my Stan Smith sneakers or my good old Vans, and a graphic tee with a hoodie if it’s chilly – the classic Southern California outfit, lol!

  9. First of all I absolutely love movie night and you look absolutely wonderful in this look. It’s the perfect casual but chic outfit to wear especially when enjoying a good film. You look amazing Yulia.

  10. Dressing casual for a movie night is what I prefer, the last thing I want is to feel uncomfortable when I enjoy the film 🙂 You look lovely, stripes and jean combination looks good!

  11. Oh’s great to hear that you enjoy choosing outfits exclusively for a movie night. I usually don’t take that much fun..hahaha. But I make sure to carry a jacket or a stole as the temperature inside the movie hall can be quite cold. I love your jeans and the kicks. Have a wonderful weekend, love 🙂
