Midi Denim Skirt Outfit, Or How to Wear Patched Denim Off The Runway

Hello, guys! Before I jump into discussing the trickiest fashion trend ever and share my denim skirt outfit, let me explain my long absence from this blog and social media. In July, I’ve been discovering sunny Greece, and then traveled to Russia, to visit all my family and friends. While this trip turned out to be one of the most beautiful and the most extraordinary in my life, it definitely kept me busy and disconnected at times. Needless to say, I missed talking to you and sharing my looks.

While I am going through countless photos from my trip and deciding which ones to post first, I want to talk to you about probably the most versatile and comfortable fabric of all times, which somehow stayed popular through so many years and never left the runway – denim. All kinds of denim can be seen on the streets these days, from good old skinnies and distressed jeans to 90s-inspired oversize jackets, A-line denim skirts and overalls. Well, according to fall 2016 fashion reports, the latest denim trend is patched and embroidered jeans, or basically, everything that has some 70’s vibe in it.

Even though patchwork already made quite a few appearances on the runway in the last two years, the trend is still very fresh and not widely adopted, and I kind of understand why. Patchwork is the trend that’s hard to wear on a daily basis unless you are a fashion-forward college student, or you work in a fashion industry. Flared pants, another 70’s fashion trend, are the opposite: they can be easily blended into any woman’s wardrobe, no matter what her age or occupation is. As I mentioned in this article, I am a huge fan of these and will definitely continue to include them in my outfits this year.

All that being said, patchwork and denim embroidery is something that keeps coming back and will definitely be more present in stores this season. Since I already needed a denim skirt in my wardrobe, I decided to try a real girl approach to the trend and get a piece with a simple and minimal add-on: patch pockets. It definitely has that trendy 70’s vibe, but can match with basically everything you already have.
